Discover Scotia.
Scotiabank’s ‘Discover’ is the re-imagined browsing experience for authenticated customers (those signed into their banking hub). The project replaced an old web-based storefront; this new hub needed to work for all customers across all platforms and devices (desktop browser banking, mobile browser banking, and mobile app banking).
Scotiabank Authenticated Marketplace
Products & services.
The old storefront (Products and Services) was a section that existed in the authenticated web banking site on an outdated host system.
Some issues identified: unclear patterns in how information was organized, products lacked categorization and proper division, and much content was convoluted or irrelevant to the user.
Additionally, the whole experience looked dated…
IA then vs. now
The new IA simplified categories and introduced subcategory pages to reduce the cognitive load Parts & Services users faced when being served all products at once. In addition to adding filters, the new structure could present popular and relevant products with a ‘featured’ sub page.
Discover(able).
The goal was an experience where information is organized, placed, and named in ways that are intuitive and easy to find. The team leveraged customer feedback, user tests, and behavioral analytics to understand how to iterate on our experience and how to prioritize those improvements.
Reusable, scalable, and dynamic
Discover needed a system with mobile-first components designed to be reused and scaled for a wide variety of use cases and scenarios.
Filters
While parts and services used simple page-level navigation, I was able to break pages down into a main category, a subcategory that could be filtered even more. This empowered users by allowing them to sort by their needs and make the decision right for them.
Elevated designs.
As the majority of users were arriving at the marketplace through the Scotiabank mobile app, our responsive web designs needed to match the clarity and sophistication expected from the secure states of a native app. I approached this marketplace with slightly more refined minimal designs than we see in the unauthenticated web experience.
